Bureau of Internal Investigations

The Bureau of Internal Investigations is a governmental organization publically dedicated to preserving the security and welfare of the general public of Corneria, although they are primarily based out of Natherica, and thus they are often associated with being from that nation. They handle investigation work and even undertake law enforcement with the cooperation of local police, and due to their importance to Natherica's domestic security, they have a large influence in government.

The Bureau is Corneria's largest employer of psionic Lylatians, and are so dominant in that aspect that there are many general notions of psions being automatically called Bureau agents, which can be unfortunate for those that were never agents in the first place. When a psion Lylatian is born, the Bureau quickly 'tags' him or her and either closely follow their lives as observors or, in some cases, actually move the family into government-funded housing. When the psion comes of age, usually by 17 or 18, the Bureau will undergo aggressive recruitment attempts to bring them into their fold, and there are rumors that some psions had been 'recruited' rather forcefully. Thanks to their influence in government, several laws were passed with language so vague that the Bureau can use loopholes to literally gain control over the public's privacy and accessibility to information. Bureau agents, especially psions, often arrested innocent people under generic charges such as undertaking anarchist activities in their attempts to cover up and protect more dangerous criminals. They are also notorious for fabricating news reports and sending assassins to eliminate threats, all to give the public a false impression of security. Despite a 'few bad apples', the Bureau have many faithful and loyal agents dedicated to protecting those they serve, but the 'few bad apples' happen to be most of those in charge, including the President of Bureau Affairs, Darcelia Benson.

On the surface, the Bureau is seen as keepers of the law and fight for justice. Their ultimate goal however, especially in the eyes of people like Benson, is to control Natherica underhandingly, and eventually... all of Corneria, and thus the entire Lylat System.
