Intitally created as the military for the country of Cecil (as the National Cecillian Guard), its strength grew when Cecil formed with other nations to create the super-power nation Natherica. Eventually the CMF became a galactic force, encompassing not just all of Corneria but also the rest of the Lylat System. During the Lylat War, it is the primary military fighting against Emperor Andross and the Venomian fleets. Normally when one speaks of the CMF, they conjure up images of space-faring battleships and fighters because that branch of the CMF, the Cornerian Space Fleet (CSF), has become the largest of all CMF branches by far. There are other CMF branches, such as the Cornerian Orbital Defense and Cornerian Domestic Forces, but it is the CSF that became synonmous with the umbrella term CMF more than the other branches.
Cornerian Domestic Forces is a term referring to the CMF branch devoted to securing the peace only within the planet Corneria, as the name implies. They are split in identities by nation, and while each answer to their respective country leaders, they also answer to the CMF, led by General Pepper. These identities are:

Cornerian Orbital Defense is devoted to the defense of the planet Corneria via the use of stationary military platforms and shipyards surrounding the planet's orbit. They are the last line of defense before entering Corneria itself, and they play a vital role in monitoring space traffic entering and exiting Corneria and enforcing laws if needed. The officer in charge is Admiral Kristoph Dunham.
Cornerian Space Fleet is dedicated to securing the entire Lylat System from space pirates and other various space-faring criminals, and most recently, against Andross' Venomian military. There are nine fleets overall, consisting of various classes of battleships and fighters. Details on the vessels are listed on the Military Tech page. The CSF has an unique ranking system.

Lylatian Elite Strike Team is a highly classified CMF special forces unit that bears the unique responsibility of handling missions in both space and within planetary atmospheres and terrian. They have a separate ranking system from the rest of the military, but due to the secretive nature of the group, they bear no unique insignias and also there are no existent uniforms that separate the unit from the rest (due to this rule, it will not be surprising for LEST members to own several different kinds of uniforms). Only a small handful of the highest CMF brass are even aware of its existence, and funding for the team is listed under an entirely different set of names in the military budget. Each member of the team are hand-picked from all walks of military life, but to be even considered for appointment, they must excel in their specific skills.
