Government
After the death of the Emperor, then-Prime Minister Shang Wu declared the Dragon Throne as defunct despite the presence of several bloodline candidates expected to inherit the throne. He declared himself President, and Elaria became a republic. After a bloody civil war eliminated all serious threats to his leadership, Shang Wu reformed the government and was elected into office with overwhelming votes continiously over the years, spurning rumors of vote rigging. However Wu was later assassinated, and the country went through various presidents via democratic process.
Terrain and Climate
Most of Elaria consist of jungle, but there are mountain ranges, especially along the north. Elaria share a land border with Cervia in the north, which consists some of the Revi Fields, an oil-rich land, and they also border Cervia via the North Sea. Ponni is southeast of the country, while Saharia is southwest. Because of the location, Elaria holds strategic influence on its surrounding nations. Monsoon seasons flood various parts of Elaria on a routine yearly basis, and some areas in the north are bitterly cold in the winter seasons.
Today
Elaria is presently Lylat's largest exporter of silk, cybernetics, plastic explosives and weaponry, favoring a policy of quantity over quality, although this also tends to make these products more affordable. They are also Lylat's largest producer and exporter of reactor-grade plutonium, as they possess large uranium deposits. Unsurprisingly, most of their energy is from nuclear power, and they have been slow to convert to more environment-friendly fusion reactors. The government actively controls their citizens' access to information, which has caught them flak from the other "democratic" nations.
Terrorist Organizations
Elarian Triad
Elaria's premier organized criminal activities organization, the triad is actually a series of clans that tend to specialize in a few areas of interest but aim to control everything in their territory. There are hundreds of such clans with a few holding more power than the "minor" ones. The government does very little to try and control the triads because they usually end up providing services the government does not (and doesn't plan to), and because they do not pose a threat to the emperor's rule; it is suspected that the emperor maintains a secret police force and it's almost impossible to identify them. The triads deal in all manner of vice (including the slave and sex trades), and their only real opposition includes organizations from other nations.
The Red Bandits
Not much is known about the Red Bandits, the elite special forces of the Elarian Republican Forces, Elaria's CMF branch. Much of their operation is done in secrecy, engaging in black-ops and sabotage. They are said to be equipped with weapons more advanced than the common Republican soldier, and undergo harsher training. Entry into the Red Bandits is invitation only.
