Government
Jhaunta is a federal republic, with power divided into two branches, Executory and Parliamentary. The Executory branch consists of the Chief of State, the Cabinet of Advisors and the State Chancellor. The Parliamentary branch consists of the Federal Assembly and the Federal Council, and these together comprise the bulk of government.
The Chief of State serves a six-year term and is elected by all members of the Federal Assembly and an equal number of delegates appointed by provincial governments, with no limit on the number of terms they may serve. The State Chancellor is elected by an absolute majority vote in the Federal Assembly to serve a four-year term. Members of the Cabinet of Advisors are appointed by the Chief of State with the Chancellor's approval. members of the Federal Assembly are elected by popular vote for a four-year term; a political party must have at least 8% of the national vote in order to gain representation. There are no elections for the Federal Council; the composition is determined by the composition of the eighteen province-level governments. Representatives on the Federal Council are subject to change anytime a province holds an election. The Federal Assembly is elected in September (as is the State Chancellor), and the Chief of State is elected in May.
Terrain and Climate
Over three-quarters of Jhaunta consist of forests and mountains, while most of the rest are fertile fields and open grassy hills. Much of the fertile areas are taken over by agricultre, and hops (used for brewery) along with grain dominate the fields. Many small villages dot the mountains, and most of them are notoriously difficult to travel to due to the oft-snowy conditions on the higher elevations. Jhaunta has humid summers and freezing winters, and some of their colder weeks rival or surpass that of Natherica's Ausman weather in the winter.
History
Jhaunta is a relatively new civilization in comparison to ancient ones such as Kanis or Saharia, and in the fact the earliest document mentioning the term 'Jhaunta' as a place is only close to a thousand years old. Originally the 'Jhauntans' were tribesmen, barbarians in the eyes of the more 'civilized' nations, although irony would have it that the barbarians would eventually outlast them. By 1290, the tribes organized the Kingdom of Jhaunta, but by 1734, it became a Republic.
Bundeswehr
One of the most advanced military branches of the CMF is the Bundeswehr of Jhaunta. They were the first to use laser weaponry as standard issue for all soldiers, and continue to become the trend in futuristic warfare.
