Government

Ponni's government is a military dictatorship; the Shogun makes all decisions for the country based on what the various lords and advisors report to him. The entire country is divided into dozens of small provinces, a feudal system, with a lord who governs each province. Ponni also has an Emperor, but he has no political power and serves only as a spiritual leader.

The Shogun gains his position through blood, either by inheriting it or by overthrowing the previous Shogun. Once he is Shogun, he remains Shogun until he's dead or someone else overthrows him. The Emperor, by comparison, is Emperor through divine right; he is the manifestation of the gods on Corneria.

Terrain and Climate

With over three thousand islands, Ponni is a nation dominated by the ocean, and only the largest ten islands have cities of decent size. Over seventy percent of the islands have mountains, most of which touches the clouds and the Ponniese have a spiritual akin to nature and its beauty, so urban sprawl is strictly limited. During the spring and summer seasons, and part of fall, monsoons blanket the islands with its fierce rainstorms, and a few islands close to Cervia experience heavy snowfall in the winter.

Today

Long an isolated nation, Ponni finally opened its borders to trade and civilian traffic.

Organizations

Gaimusho

Officially known as Ponni's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Gaimusho operates similar to the Bureau of Internal Investigations, with agents working to protect the welfare of Ponni citizens by law enforcement and counterterrorism outside of Ponniese borders. Despite it being one of Ponni's few organizations with interests outside of its own country, its presence is generally subtle in foreign countries.

Notable Cities

Eyo

The Shogun resides in Eyo, Ponni's capitol. Eyo is also where all of Ponni's national business is decided (less pressing matters are normally handled by province).

Eyo's population is around half a million people; the seven million Ponniese living in the country are spread around the island, with only large cities having a substantial population.

Koto

The spiritial and religious capitol of Ponni, Koto is also where the Emperor resides. Koto's population is only around two hundred thousand.

Mesaki

The largest city in Ponni, and for a time, the only city open to foriengers. Two large power generation plants can be found here, running on diesel oil imported from Saharia, and provide a large amount of Ponni's available energy. Another plant is in Eyo.

Mesaki has a population of just over two million Ponniese, and around three hundred thousand permanent international residents who work either on the docks or the tarmac.
